Leave plenty of time for this walk beside the River Itchen as there is a wealth of diversions on route including St Catherine’s Hill, Hockley Viaduct, Hospital of St. Cross, Wolvesey Palace and Winchester Cathedral.

This is a gem of a walk starting out beside a beautiful old village church (and pub!) with access to The River Meon via a peaceful little nature reserve.

A gentle walk from Petersfield town along the River Rother will bring you to Sky Park Farm where you can enjoy the resident deer from the footpath or pay to enter and experience more of what the farm has to offer families.

This was one of the very first walks that we included on The Ambling Path and despite having walked over 130 more family walks since, this remains a firm favourite due to the easy route and the opportunities to access the River Meon.

There is something magical in the woods of this National Trust Nature reserve, near Whitely. As you follow the creek that leads to the River Hamble, look out for the fairy tree and bring an offering to the little folk who reside there.

This has been one of our most popular walks to date, and it is easy to see why. Follow beautiful River Itchen past an alpaca farm and over bridges before returning through ancient woodland.
